![]() ![]() My sight in my right, good, eye, is now better than it has been at any time in the last twelve years.Īs someone who suffered from high near-sightedness (-8.0 and -9.75) for decades and who had suffered retinal detachments some years previously, I was nervous when at a recent eye-test my optometrist told me that I would need to have cataract surgery sooner rather than later. You took care to understand the nature of my life and work, and to fit your advice to me in ‘my context’ rather than just dealing the specific condition with which you were confronted. ![]() It is very important to any patient to have the opportunity to know more, to learn more, and to receive reassurance where that is possible. The time and attention you gave me in consultations were enormously welcome. You explained how long this would take and you were precisely right, which meant I was able to manage my life and work during that period with confidence. The most important thing and what I much appreciated was the time you took to explain the position clearly, particularly the timing and process. You temporarily arrested the potential for further damage in the short term with laser treatment pending the (vitrectomy) operation that was successful. I was very worried that both my personal and professional life would be seriously damaged. After the gas bubble has disappears, the eye becomes filled with aqueous fluid that is always present inside the eye.īetween 20, I had operations then on both eyes in the course of which I lost any detailed sight in my left eye and rely entirely for detail on the right. The longer-acting gas bubble will be gone completely by 2 months. The short-acting gas bubble will be gone completely by 3 weeks. These are normal and will disappear as the gas bubble dissolves. In some cases, it is normal for the gas bubble to break into smaller bubbles, and this may appear as “small black, fish egg-like shadows.” These shadows move with your eye, and can appear in the central part of your vision when waking in the morning. ![]() For a short period, you may see what appears as a “spirit level-like effect” and this is entirely normal as it is due to the light reflecting off the gas bubble. As the gas bubble reduces in size, it will float upwards and then cast a shadow that will appear in the lower part of your vision. The gas bubble will dissolve naturally over time.During the first 2 weeks, your eye may only see hand motions or finger counting vision. An eye filled with a gas bubble will be unable to see clearly. If you run out of eye drops, please contact your GP for a repeat prescription, or contact the secretary of Mr Mahi Muqit for advice. Please do not wear contact lenses in the operated eye until discussed with Mr Mahi Muqit. The spectacle lens in the operated eye may be covered with masking tape to block out any reflections or shadows from an air bubble or gas bubble. You may continue all of your other usual activities: showering, washing your face and hair (though try to keep water out), watching television, reading, using handheld devices/tablets, cooking, praying and going for walks, unless you are advised otherwise. You should avoid: heavy manual lifting, contact sports, gardening, swimming until you have discussed this with Mr Mahi Muqit at your follow up appointment To clean the shield, simply rinse it under the tap and dry it with a clean tissue.ĭo Not Rub or Press your eye for two weeks, or longer if advised Please wear the protective shield at night for 1 day unless otherwise instructed. ![]()
